What Else Should Swim Spa Shoppers Know

Swim Spas are an amazing piece of technology. One aspect people should look at when buying a Swim Spa is the dual temperature. This allows a person to be swimming in a section 12-18 ft at 80 degrees, while other people can be relaxing in a hot tub area 6-8 ft at 104 degrees. Owners have the option to angle the Swim Spa at 90 degrees if the location cannot contain the length. People who already have hot tubs are ahead of the game. All they need to do is purchase a 12-16 ft Swim Spa and attach it to their existing hot tub. This option can save thousands of dollars when purchasing a Swim Spa.

Swim Spas for Water Therapy

Water therapy presents an alternative to western medicine for chronic conditions and illnesses such as Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. The buoyancy of the water relaxes the body by taking pressure off bones and joints promoting freer movement and support. Strength is gained without risking impairment by swimming against the water’s resistance. Exercise and stretching in the variable warm temperatures of a Swim Spa can alleviate aches and pains because of the low impact involved.

Other Forms of Exercise in a Swim Spa

According to Tulipani, the exercises you can perform in a swim spa are only limited by your imagination. Running, walking, aqua-aerobics, rowing, cross-country skiing and resistance exercises using special dumbbells, rings and suspension belts are just a few of the workouts that can be adapted to a Swim Spa.

Advantages of a Swims Spa Versus a Hot Tub

The bottom line advantage of a Swim Spa versus a hot tub is versatility and the ability to move and exercise freely in any direction. Unlike a hot tub owner, a Swim Spa owner can unwind, swim and exercise. A Swim Spa is at least 4 feet deep and has power jets to exercise against. In a hot tub you are confined in the center to either sit down or get out. The hot tub mindset is more about relieving stress and relaxation.

Advantages of Swim Spas

Space-saving sizes, lower costs and extended swimming seasons in colder climates. The operating costs of Swim Spas such as chemical costs are reduced immensely because of the Swim Spas size. It allows the Swim Spas the use of an ozonator. A Swim Spa holds 2,000-3,000 gallons of water as opposed to a swimming pool holding 30,000-40,000 gallons of water. Bottom line, a Swim Spa is much less expensive to heat.

How is a Swim Spa defined?

Experts agree that a swim spa can generally be described as a small pool with current that allows the user to swim in place, most feel that the product has transcended both that definition and the category name Swim Spa. Swim Spa is an industry term, but not the best name for the consumer to understand. A swim spa provides so much more than just swimming. It brings relaxation, exercise, and swimming together in one package. “A swim spa is a combination of three things – water aerobics, a soaking hot tub for relaxation and a mini-pool to swim in,” concurs Vittorio Tulipani.

Victor Tulipani, was selling Whirlpool Baths and Spas at Supershow in Atlanta, Georgia and met Susan Summers who was a guest of a company. He talked with her for 10 minutes and she signed an Autograph picture. He told her he was living in Marin County, CA, and apparently before she was famous, she lived in Sausalito, CA. She told him way back when, she went for an interview in San Francisco for American Graffiti, and of all the girls, she was picked.

Victor saw her again in Las Vegas, went up to her, reminded her of the encounter at Supershow and gave her, Dudley the Duck.

Playboy Advertising

In 1982, Victor Tulipani had a manufacturing plant called Peregrine Industries in San Rafael, California, and the retail store was in Mill Valley, California called Spas Plus. At the time Playboy contacted Victor and wanted to send 2 PR agents to see and talk with him about Hot tubs. Upon arrival, they wanted to know all the activities done in a Hot tub.

They wanted to see one in someone’s backyard, not just in the store. Victor took them to his brothers house in Ross, CA and Victor told them all his wild stories. “Because he was an expert,” they said “we are going to put you in a story of the January 1983 edition of Playboy in the cartoon ‘Little Any Fanny.’”

18 years later they called again and said they wanted to do another article in the potpourri section of March 2001 regarding Hot Tub Lifeguard T-Shirts and hats.

Drummer for Chicago, Danny Seraphine purchased a Teakwood bathtub. He had a private home in Kauai at the time. Danny wanted to trade 3 weeks in Kauai for the Teakwood bathtub, and Victor agreed with the trade. Victor stayed in Kauai with this family and it was lovely. Victor also went to a couple of his concerts for free to say “Hello!” Thank you.
