Victor Tulipani, was selling Whirlpool Baths and Spas at Supershow in Atlanta, Georgia and met Susan Summers who was a guest of a company. He talked with her for 10 minutes and she signed an Autograph picture. He told her he was living in Marin County, CA, and apparently before she was famous, she lived in Sausalito, CA. She told him way back when, she went for an interview in San Francisco for American Graffiti, and of all the girls, she was picked.

Victor saw her again in Las Vegas, went up to her, reminded her of the encounter at Supershow and gave her, Dudley the Duck.

In 1982, Victor Tulipani had a manufacturing plant called Peregrine Industries in San Rafael, California, and the retail store was in Mill Valley, California called Spas Plus. At the time Playboy contacted Victor and wanted to send 2 PR agents to see and talk with him about Hot tubs. Upon arrival, they wanted to know all the activities done in a Hot tub.

They wanted to see one in someone’s backyard, not just in the store. Victor took them to his brothers house in Ross, CA and Victor told them all his wild stories. “Because he was an expert,” they said “we are going to put you in a story of the January 1983 edition of Playboy in the cartoon ‘Little Any Fanny.’”

18 years later they called again and said they wanted to do another article in the potpourri section of March 2001 regarding Hot Tub Lifeguard T-Shirts and hats.

Danny Seraphine

Drummer for Chicago, Danny Seraphine purchased a Teakwood bathtub. He had a private home in Kauai at the time. Danny wanted to trade 3 weeks in Kauai for the Teakwood bathtub, and Victor agreed with the trade. Victor stayed in Kauai with this family and it was lovely. Victor also went to a couple of his concerts for free to say “Hello!” Thank you.

My 5 Seconds of Fame as Burt Reynolds

In the 1980’s, during the development of spas and hot tubs, Tulipani Enterprises, Inc., Handcrafted Teakwood spas and whirlpool baths. Tulipani Enterprises, Inc. was the only one in the world developing and marketing these products. Snyder-Diamond sold Burt Reynolds a Teakwood Spa. Snyder-Diamond requested Victor Tulipani do an inspection. At the time, Burt Reynolds was dating Sally Fields. It so happens Burts nickname for Sally Fields was “Froggy.” Prior to the inspection, there was a 48 hr. clearance to inspect the teakwood spa. At the time Victor was young, energetic, with a tan and a BMW. After the inspection Victor walked out of Burt’s home, and the tour bus pulled up. All the people were snapping, flashing their cameras and thought Victor was Burt Reynolds or another movie star. He was a Hollywood star for 5 seconds of fame.

Liberace’s Teakwood Spa

Snyder Diamond contacted Victor again because Liberace bought a Teakwood Spa. Liberace was playing in Las Vegas at the time. He also had a home in South Lake Tahoe and played the casino’s there. When Victor heard it was Liberace who placed the order, he personally wanted to deliver the Teakwood Spa to his home in South Lake Tahoe. Victor never got to meet him personally. He really was a different kind of entertainer, and a big showman!

I am fortunate in my life time to provide my product, the Teakwood Spa to Liberace and a teakwood bathtub to Victoria Principal.

Redwood/Teakwood Hot Tubs to Fiberglass Spas

In the late 70’s early 80’s Gerico was one of the largest manufacturer of hot tubs and spas. They acquired Victors rights, took picture of Teakwood Spa and that went onto the front cover of Spa and Sauna Magazine in 1976. Teakwood spas were very expensive, even by today’s standards because it is hand crafted.

Designed and patented, developed the same spa and called it a Spauna. This replaced the teakwood vat. 6 ft. in diameter, by 48 inches deep.

The Spauna was developed as a fiberglass spa replacing the standard hot tub.

Today, Sonoma Hot Tub is currently selling that same design that Victor Tulipani designed and patented March 17th, 1981.

Victor encounters Perry Mason

Raymond Burr (Played Perry Mason) bought 1 bathtub and 2 sinks in teakwood. He lived on a ranch in Sonoma County. Raymond came to the retail store in San Rafael and everyone around who saw Raymond was very excited. He did a follow up and invited Victor to his home to take a picture together. However the picture was never taken because he passed away.

Curbside Delivery:
Transfer to backyard would be either by fork lift or crane. Cost of forklift roughly $200.00, crane $1200.00 for the day. Majority sales of Swim Spas are above ground with possibility of decking for surroundings. While Swim Spa is on order you need a 6 inch concrete pad for required dimension with rebar. Then you need to call a licensed electrician for electrical requirements. Fill up with water, and enjoy!

Started in 1976. California Cooperage came out with the redwood vat. The first time hot tubs got exposure was an advertisement in Playboy by California Cooperage for $790.00. Then hottubs began selling like wildfire! Within the first 5 years, the redwood vats, became molded forms called spas.

When sales first took off, a company called Spa Broaker was selling exclusive distribution rights, but cost a lot money, and the original Spa Broaker manufacturing has since gone out of business. Now other companies such as Jacuzzi, and Hot Springs Spas has become involved and made the industry what it is today.
